WHITEHORSE A BEAVER CREEK – Fronteira com o  Alaska

De Whitehorse a primeira cidade na rota e Haines Junction, uma pequena vila de cartao postal localizada nas proximidades do Kluane National Park and Reserve, rodeada por uma estonteante vista, por se encontrar no vale do Shakwak, se caracteriza por uma das paisagens mais extraordinárias do planeta. Situada entre três áreas de proteção ambiental internacionais, e um paraiso para os entusiastas das atividades e vida ao ar livre. Esta comunidade se localiza dentro do território tradicional das Champagne e Aishihik First Nations, povos Southern Tutchone. Evoluindo de um acampamento de construção da Alaska Highway, Haines Junction e hoje uma comunidade atuante que fornece uma variedade de serviços e grande numero de atividades turísticas.

O Kluane Lake e o  maior lago do Yukon Territory, seu nome deriva da variação da palavra Tlingit Luxh-ani – área do peixe branco (whitefish country) e este e um bom local para a pesca do peixe branco, truta e do salmão chum. Aqui se encontra o Museu Kluane de Historia Natural, bem como painéis interpretivos sobre o local.

Destruction Bay, cujo nome deriva de uma terrível tempestade de vento ocorrida nos anos 40, e uma pequena comunidade que se situa as margens do Lago Kluane e dentro do perímetro do Parque e Reserva Nacional Kluane e da região do Tachal. Nos anos 40 Destruction Bay era uma estacao de substituição durante a construção da Alaska Highway, onde os caminhoneiros descansavam e consertavam seus veículos. Hoje em dia, ela e uma pequena vila as margens do lago Kluane, com ótima pesca de trutas.

Burwash Landing e’ um dos mais antigos assentamentos no Yukon e atualmente e’ território da Kluane First Nation, dos povos Southern Tutchone, que tem habitado a área do Kluane por varias gerações. O local atual de Burwash Landing era um tradicional acampamento de verão. Após os irmãos Jacquot construírem um armazém no local, os povos das First Nations passaram a habitar nas proximidades do local. Após a finalização da construção da Alaska Highway, Burwash tornou-se o centro administrativo da Kluane First Nation.

Beaver Creek e o domicilio da White River First Nation, e se caracteriza por ser a comunidade mais ocidental no Yukon, fronteira com o Alaska.

 

WHITEHORSE TO BEAVER CREEK – BORDER TO ALASKA

From Whitehorse to Beaver Creek, the first stop is at Haines Junction, a picture-postcard village on the edge of Kluane National park and Reserve and is surrounded by dramatic scenery and a wilderness adventure playground in its backyard. The village lies in the Shakwak Valley on the doorstep of one of the most dazzling landscapes on the planet. Situated amongst three large internationally protected wilderness areas, a variety of activities exist for the outdoor enthusiast.

The community lies within the traditional territory of the Champagne and Aishihik First Nations, Southern Tutchone people. Evolving from an Alaska Highway construction camp, Haines Junction today is a key destination for backcountry hiking, wilderness backpacking and mountaineering. This hub of the Kluane region offers visitors a wide range of services, including a Yukon and Parks Canada Visitor Center.

Kluane Lake is the largest lake in the Yukon. The Southern Tutchone name – Luan Man – and the English name are probably variations of the Tlingit – Luxh-ani (whitefish country). Kluane Lake is a good place to fish for whitefish, trout and chum salmon. Here are the Kluane Museum of Natural History and interpretive signage.

Destruction Bay is named for a fierce windstorm in the 40’s, this small community lies on the shore of the Kluane Lake and on the perimeter of Kluane National Park and Reserve and the Tachal Region. In the 40’s Destruction Bay was a relay station during the Alaska Highway construction where truck drivers took brakes and repaired their vehicles. Today it is a small lakeside  village with access to Kluane Lake and superb trout fishing.

Burwash Landing is one of the oldest settlements in Yukon and is now home of the Kluane First Nation, a Southern Tutchone people, who have inhabited the Kluane area for countless generations. The current site of Burwash Landing was a traditional summer camp location. After the Jacquot brothers built a trading post in the early 1900’s, First Nations people began to settle nearby. Following construction of the Alaska Highway, Burwash became the administrative Center of the Kluane First Nation.

Beaver Creek is home of the White River First Nation and it is Canada’s westernmost community. Here is the border crossing into Alaska.

Alaska is such a wonderful destination for tourists. It has meaningful attractions to explore and have an offensive time. I like its parks, lakes and glaciers.
