Homer – “No final da estrada”, onde a aventura começa...

Uma viagem de 225 milhas de paisagens incríveis desde Anchorage, pela Sterling Highway, nos traz ate Homer, ‘as margens da Baia de Kachemak. Este e’ um dos poucos lugares no mundo onde diversos glaciares e vulcões ativos podem ser vistos ao mesmo tempo. Este e’ um paraíso para a pesca, pratica de kayak e trilha, e avistamento de ursos.

Também possui a distinção de possuir o segundo maior “spit” do mundo...O “spit: e’ um fenômeno geológico natural formado inicialmente pelo deposito de entulho resultante dos glaciares que se depositam em seu final, e o de Homes se estende por 5 milhas para dentro da Kachemak Bay. Este e o ponto de partida para as infindáveis aventuras na e através da Kachemak Bay. O porto de homer abriga embarcações de todos os tamanhos, incluindo o “Time Bandit”, que se tornou famoso na serie de TV “Pesca “.

Diversos operadores de balsas locais oferecem serviços que vão até  Seldovia e o Parque Estadual da Baia de Kachemak e o Parque Wilderness. Cruzeiros para avistar vida selvagem e para a pesca do King Salmon são oferecidos durante todo o ano.

O nome Homer vem de Homer Pennock, um mineiro de ouro que desenvolveu o primeiro assentamento no Homer Spit em 1896. Hoje em dia ela e uma comunidade pujante com aproximadamente 5.400 residentes.

Alem das atividades relacionadas com a vida marinha, aqui existem bons restaurantes, lojas dos mais variados artigos, museus e centros com exibições da vida marinha.

O Parque Estadual Kachemak possui mais de 400.000 acres de florestas, montanhas, glaciares e oceano que somente podem ser acessados por via aérea ou taxi aquático de Homer. Existem ótimas opções de trilhas, pratica de kayak e camping. Mitos turistas preferem conhecer a região acompanhados de um guia ou companhias de turismo autorizadas a operar no Parque.

No Homer Spit existem tanto campings particulares quanto os municipais na beira da praia. Os campings municipais possuem banheiros, agua e uma estação sanitária e disponibilizada no  camping Fishing Hole Campground.

Há espaço de estacionamento de uso diário para trailers e motor homes no centro da cidade e no estacionamento do edifício HERC, na esquina da Sterling Highway com a Pioneer Avenue. Uma estação sanitária e agua potável estão localizadas no Homer Bypass próximo da loja Goldmine Gifts. Há uma taxa de $2,00 para o uso da estação.

Homer – At the “End of the Road” – The Adventure Begins!

An awe inspiring 225 miles drive south of Anchorage on the Sterling Highway, brings you to Homer, on the shores of Kachemak Bay. It is one of the few places in the world, where several glaciers and active volcano can be viewed  at the same time. It is a fishing, kayaking, bear viewing and hiking paradise.

It also has the distinction of having the second longest “Spit” in the world. The Spit is a natural geological phenomenon formed initially by terminal glacial moraine that just 5 miles out into the Kachemak Bay. It is a great jumping off point for endless adventures in and across Kachemak Bay. The Homer Harbor is home to vessels of all shapes, sizes, including the “Time Bandit”, made famous in the TV series “Deadliest Catch”.

Several local ferry operators provide service to Seldovia and Kachemak Bay State Park and Wilderness Park. Wildlife cruises of Kachemak Bay and King Salmon fishing are offered throughout the year.

Homer was named for Homer Pennock, a gold miner who established the first development on the Homer Spit in 1896. Today it is a thriving community of approximately 5,400 residents.

Besides marine-related activities, there are here several good restaurants, all kind of shops, museums and centers showing exhibitions related to wild life.

The Kachemak Bay State Park is over 400,000 acres of forests, mountains, glaciers and ocean that can only be reached by air or water taxi from Homer. There is excellent hiking, kayaking and camping options. Many visitors will discover the Park with professional guides or tour companies authorized to operate in the Park.

At Homer Spit there are both private and city owned campgrounds on the beach. The city campgrounds have restrooms, water and a dump station is available at the Fishing Hole Campground.

There is day parking for RVs in downtown and Old Town Homer at the HERC building parking lot on the corner of the Sterling Highway and Pioneer Avenue. A dump station and water is located on the Homer Bypass near Goldmine Gifts. There is a $2,00 fee for its use.

Alaska is such a wonderful destination for tourists. It has meaningful attractions to explore and have an offensive time. I like its parks, lakes and glaciers.
